I was walking up the trail in Ceres a few weeks ago and decided to move in for a closer look at one of the fallen trees.
From the looks of it, this tree stump has been here for awhile. Look at all the “stuff” growing. Interesting view but…
This view is a lot more fun. Here on this side, close to the ground, the tree has morphed into a stump eating beast.
Be sure to visit Lisa’s Chaos for more Macro Monday photos. Thank you Lisa. Thank you for giving us this opportunity to share.

Another awesome captures.
Oh it really does look like a beast from the forest when in B/W. I love studying old knarled trees to see whats inhabiting them
Seriously gorgeous!! Magic!! I love trees..old trees.. broken tree..any tree..awesome work!

great photos, john, and even better in black and white. it adds to the dryness of the splintered wood.
Brilliant shots John, love the tones !!
It is fun to explore the woods and their mysteries.
Thanks for making me smile!
Cool and fun shot! I like it when I can see the same thing as someone else.
Your mono shots below are terrific!
Hi John,
You already know I admire your talent in photography. Now you’ve chosen one of my fascinations that my husband tolerates with patience.
He used to wonder, “what in the world am I doing over there photographing?” because he didn’t see anything worthy. He understands my fascination by now, though and smiles. Well, tree stumps, rotting trees, treasure caves for vegetation, critters, and all sorts of interesting textures abound as you know! I also love to draw and paint this subject matter.
You caught those shapes and textures beautifully. I like the very soft background as a contrast that doesn’t detract from your main subject. In fact, I don’t even notice a background unless I think about it now when commenting. Thanks for this special treat!!
I definitely see the monster! Love that second shot! Thanks for the tips on the lenses. I will be on the lookout for them.
Both shots are great and the bottom one does look like the stump is about to be eaten by a giant insect.
I always forget to mention how much I like your header.
Wish I had shot the header James. It comes with the theme. One of these days I may replace it with one of my own photos, but I like it so much that I’ve kept it.
