One more thing about the coarse grains I got. As with the 4800 dpi output resolution, I would expect the scan stand at least in the range of some digital image shot with a 18+ MP camera. But that does not seem to be the case when I compare it to my other digital images.

I will try out the different DCI settings later on.

The Plus-X was taken and developed years back. I dont remember Plus-X would have such coarse grains, even though I might have developed it with Rodinal, that is why I started to wonder.

The output resolution was maximum at 4800 dpi. I hope I did not forget or misunderstand any scanning basics, though. Or could it also be I have been a bit too spoilt by digital photography and done too much pixel-peeping in Lightroom ...

I don't think the choice of film type affects the graininess of the scan. I use either Tmax-100 or Tmax-400. Play with the Developer Contrast Index while you have Graph b/w up on your screen. Different DCI settings will yield different histograms. Just find the best histogram for your neg and use that. Works like a charm.

Grain? I haven't used Plus-X in many years. You might try experimenting with different scan resolutions.

From your experience, in Vuescan how much do the "B/W Vendor" and "B/W Brand" affect the graininess of the scan result?
I was trying to scan some negatives, Kodak Plus-X 125, but could not find that in the list. I tried once with "Generic" and once with "TMAX 400 Professional". Both scan results seem rather a little bit too grainy.

Can the "Type = D76 CI" value be used to control to level of grain?
