I got behind the controls of my way-back machine and dug this week’s image out of my archives. It’s from the same Phila. subway series that I tapped into a few weeks ago.
The bell bottoms tell you that I shot this photo back in 1971 (or 1970 — I can’t remember the exact year). I like the contrasts in this photo — the contrast between the dark shadows and the absolute white of the harsh, overhead lamps. It looks like a subway. I also like the contrast between the guy in the sneakers, standing still, rooting in his pockets for change and the people moving through the line at the cashier’s booth.
I had fun that day, wandering the subway platforms and shooting B&W film. My love affair with B&W goes back a long time and continues to this day. As a matter of fact, I shot a roll of B&W film this morning and will develop it myself tomorrow.
