Michael broke the silence when he leaned forward from the back seat waving a wad of cash. “I’ll buy your car. We’ll take you where you want to go. How much?”
“My car isn’t for sale. I’m going back to the city to find someone who needs my help.”
Beth turned so she could see her husband: “You disgust me Michael. You think money can buy anything. It can’t.”
“Leah, is there anything we can do to help? Michael is on the Mayor’s staff.”
Leah jammed on the brakes and said between clenched teeth: “Get out. You’re one of them, one of the bastards who chose us. Sarah and I were separated. I escaped but she was left behind. I’m going to find her and get her out of the city.”
Beth looked at Leah in horror and turned to Michael. “What is Leah talking about? What have you done?”
– The End –
This week’s flash word is “go” and the upper limit is 150 words. I just made it with 150 words.
Flash fiction is fun. Hop on over to Flash in the Pan where you can join in the M3 Flash Fiction Challenge.
Hi, John. I found you at Red’s and have in the past seen you at Susan’s. I like your style. I’ll be back.
Horror John, what has Michael done?
Great little story, that makes you think before you find out what is going on. Love the flash fiction!
How delightfully twisted, John. You do dystopia so well, and this time you have outdone yourself.
Thank you Red. I’m getting tuned up for this year’s NaNoWriMo. Can hardly wait. I will make good use of October. I can do a lot of planning in a month.
