The Ridge Trail in Ceres Park takes the high ground most of the time. This trail is steeper, narrower and more fun than the main trail. You don’t walk this trail, you climb, scramble over tree roots and get some nice high views of the lakes below — most of the time. Think roller coaster.
This photo was taken from one of the low points after the trail descends on steps carved out of the hillside. The trail curves around to the right here to avoid the hill. I love the way the two trees cling to the hillside. I’ve taken quite a few pictures of this scene and finally got the one I wanted using one of my 50mm lenses (50/1.4 Super Multi-Coated Takumar screw mount). This image is from the same roll of TX film as last week’s shots.
There’s something about this full frame, uncropped composition that works for me in ways my earlier attempts with wide angle didn’t.
I like the exposed roots, there’s something evil looking about them.
I love this shot.
It looks like a fun walk! I like the roots, too; I would probably be squatting down, getting in as close as possible, looking for interesting shots!
I really like this shot. I spent one evening when I was in Vegas last week walking around with just a 50mm (roughly equivalent to a 75mm on film since I use a small-format digital camera), and a 35mm (roughly a 50mm equivalent), and it really makes you look for compositions. It’s a lot of fun.
Great one!
Happy weekend.
Very poetic, subtle shot. I love the diagonal and the way you framed it!
Very, very nice! Love the shapes and textures of those roots and the light on the new leaves. Beautiful composition.
Beautiful….these are the images I see all the time when I am out hiking with my husband. When I come across this root structure radiating roughly above the surface the old lightbulb goes off in my brain:
WALK CAREFULLY! I have fallen more than once looking up instead of down. Love the shot.
I loved your last shot and I like this one even more!
No question this combination of lens and film, and your sense of composition, does the scene justice.
Nice shot…;-D
Beautiful results John! I read somewhere that those old Takumars are some of the best glass ever made. Lucky to own a few myself!
I like these trees with roots exposed. Nice shot.
Interesting photo. Good shot.
Nice work. It’s really hard to get decent photos in the woods due to the dicey light and sameness of color/contrast.
The roots of trees have always intrigued me -hard to paint though:) Thanks for visiting my blog!
